AbstractThe equatorial spread F and plasma bubble that occur in the equatorial-low latitude ionosphere can drastically affect a large number of technological devices that are present in modern life. The basic physics of the plasma bubble and irregularities is relatively well known but there are some aspects related to their day-to-day variability that are not completely resolved. In this sense numerical models allow a detailed evaluation of the influence of distinct physical parameters on the plasma bubble generation and evolution. We have developed a model for plasma bubble studies that solves the differential equations for the electric potential and for ion density, as well as the motion equations for electrons and ions, in a three dimensional frame (latitude, longitude and height). This model is used to investigate the time evolution of the plasma bubbles. In order to test the validity of the model for the Brazilian region the input parameters are derived from observations. The numerical model results were used to derive the emission rate in 135.6 nm. The results displayed in a latitude versus longitude plane show a reversed-C shape, similar to the observational results from Kil et al. (JGR, 2009). The possible explanations for this peculiar behavior are discussed in this work.
